The 2023 Bentley Continental GT Speed

I think it’s time to be a little opulent, and for me, just to dream a lot ….

In 2003 whilst hosting The Car Show for the Nine Network, I was lucky enough to drive the first Bentley Continental GT to arrive in Australia, and twenty years later, the memories are still vivid.

Released earlier that year, the Continental GT was the first car released by Bentley under Volkswagen AG management after they purchased the company in 1998, and it was the first Bentley to use mass production manufacturing techniques.

Still to this day, if I was to tip a huge amount of money into a car and let’s make that well north of $600,000, it would be a Bentley Continental GT, and preferably the newly released 2023 Bentley Continental GT Speed

To me the Continental GT has always been the complete package, but from the Bentley-supplied figures, the ‘Speed’ takes this new car’s performance to a whole new level. The 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 engine with an output of 458kW and 900Nm (which is enormous) will get you from 0 to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds, to 160km/h (or the old 100mph) in 7.7 seconds and reportedly tops out around 335km/h. This is all whilst in the serene environment of a 2273kg grand tourer, i.e. a big heavy car.

If you’re worried about the fuel economy of the ‘Speed’, you really shouldn’t even think about considering this car for your garage. FYI, be prepared for the high teens/litre/100k, but taking all of this into account, I personally, would still love one.

Carsales Scott Newman recently took a close look over the new Bentley Continental GT Speed and this is how he rated the car for carsales.com.au
