I like so many other Australian off-road racing followers am a huge fan of Toby Price.
Born in country NSW in 1987, his father John was an Australian Off-Road Buggy champion and he apparently first hopped on a motorbike at 2 years of age and won his first race at 4 years of age and since then he’s gone on to win many more titles on bikes and in cars.
In 2021 he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal and also became the first person to win the Finke Desert Race in both the car and bike categories at the same event, which was an amazing feat.
He turned professional in 2004 at 16 years of age, and since then has gone on to win amongst others, 2 Dakar Rallies and numerous other National and Internationals titles on bikes, along with the 2021, 2022 and 2023 Finke Desert Races in cars. On top of that he’s widely regarded as a good bloke who just loves racing.
So, I was interested to see this ad recently on bikesale.com. au:
According to the sales pitch:
‘What makes this particular vehicle so appealing – on top of the fact it was raced to victory by our own Toby Price – is the fact it’s the only one of its kind in the world: a custom-built creation that blurs the line between TSCO Trophy Truck and Trophy Spec Truck, developed specifically for Price to compete in.’
The champion driver said the truck was “absolutely amazing to drive” and that he’s “100 per cent sad to see it go, building it and my first Finke win was my favourite memory,” he said.
“I wish I could keep it… it’s fun – the most stable truck and best-turning truck I’ve been able to race in 2WD. It loves being wide open and doing high speeds”.
That’s good enough for me, I want it …. all I need is $620,000, although that does include some spare and tyres!!!
