There is no doubt that since the first series of the Formula 1 Netflix television series ‘Drive to Survive’ was aired in 2019, popularity in F1 has increased and broadened considerably, primarily in America. It’s certainly developed a younger fan base, and particularly the female audience.
Initially the series was conceived to revolve entirely around Red Bull Racing, however it very quickly evolved to encompass the full F1 grid to become what it is today.
With coverage of the 2023 season being the sixth and most recent ‘Drive to Survive’ series, it’s not surprising that over the years there have been similar series produced based around the Formula 2 Championship – ‘Chasing the Dream’; Formula E – ‘Unplugged’; IndyCar – ‘100 Days to Indy’; NASCAR – ‘Race for the Championship’; and the one that has just been released and which I’ve watched and loved on Netflix is NASCAR ‘Full Speed’.
Produced for Netflix and like ‘Drive to Survive’, this five-part series gives a behind-the-scenes look at the drivers and racers of the NASCAR Cup Series which is the top series of the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing. This first series released in January covers the regular series finale and the play offs of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series and I’m sure there will be other ‘Full Speed’ series to follow.
