Praga Bohema: The Ultra-Light Czech Hypercar

Home » Praga Bohema: The Ultra-Light Czech Hypercar

If you haven’t heard of Praga before, you’re not alone-but that’s quickly changing. This historic Czech engineering powerhouse is suddenly grabbing headlines worldwide thanks to the stunning debut of its latest creation: the Praga Bohema.

A Century of Engineering Heritage

Founded over a century ago, Praga has a rich legacy in transportation and military engineering. The company has built everything from automobiles, trucks, and motorcycles to aircraft, buses, and agricultural equipment. During the first half of the 20th century, Praga was one of Central Europe’s largest engineering firms, earning its place among Czechoslovakia’s “big three” automotive brands.

Today, the company is channeling all that historic expertise into a cutting-edge, track-ready hypercar unlike anything else on the road.

Unveiled in November 2022, the Praga Bohema is a low-volume, Czech-designed hypercar that perfectly blends brute power, featherweight engineering, and race-bred aerodynamics. Production officially began in late 2023 with an exclusive launch at Praga’s newly opened UK headquarters, where customers had the chance to see the car up close.

Production will be strictly limited to just 89 units worldwide—a tribute to Praga’s 89th anniversary of its legendary 1933 victory at the 1000 Miles of Czechoslovakia. That exclusivity alone puts the Bohema in elite company, but it’s what’s under the skin that truly impresses.

At the heart of the Bohema lies a specially prepared 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, sourced from the Nissan GT-R. Tuned by renowned UK firm Litchfield Engineering, the engine features upgraded turbochargers, a dry sump lubrication system, and a titanium exhaust. The result? A staggering 700 horsepower and 725 Nm (535 lb-ft) of torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a 6-speed Hewland sequential gearbox.

What makes the Bohema truly remarkable, though, is its weight—or lack thereof. Thanks to a full carbon fibre monocoque and body, the car tips the scales at just 1,000 kg (2,204 lbs). This ultralight construction allows the Bohema to rocket from 0–100 km/h in just 2.3 seconds, with a top speed of 317 km/h (197 mph).

In terms of handling, the aerodynamics are just as impressive. The Bohema generates 900 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, allowing it to corner like a true race car—even on standard road tyres.

Breaking Records: Bohema on the Top Gear Test Track

The Bohema recently made international headlines when it lapped the iconic Top Gear Test Track in just 1:09.8, making it the fastest combustion-powered production car to ever do so. Even more impressively, it achieved this using regular road tyres, not track-specific rubber—further proof of the car’s extraordinary engineering.

This incredible lap time places the Bohema in rarefied air, outpacing many much-hyped supercars and hypercars, and confirming Praga’s position among the elite names in performance motoring.

Interested in owning a piece of Czech hypercar history? You’ll need deep pockets—and a bit of luck. The first Praga Bohema was delivered in December 2024 to a Dutch buyer for €1.36 million plus taxes, which equates to just under $2.5 million AUD.

With only 89 units planned for production, each Bohema will be as rare as it is fast, with bespoke finishes and personalisation options available to match each owner’s vision.

The Praga Bohema isn’t just a fast car—it’s a statement. A symbol of what’s possible when century-old engineering excellence meets modern innovation. Whether you’re a collector, racer, or simply a lover of automotive art, the Bohema is proof that boutique brands still have the power to shake up the supercar world.
