To me this year’s Dakar Rally in January will be remembered for Australians Daniel Sanders taking out the Moto title, Toby Price losing his factory ride leading up to the race and with local support changed over to 4 wheels and privateer Toby Hendrics finished 19 th Outright, 9 th in Rally 2 and 2 nd of the Rookies in the bikes.
But it’s the Toby Hederics story that I love. Growing up in Gol Gol on The River Murray and son of one of Australia’s most successful desert bike and car racers John Hederics, Toby only decided to enter the Dakar Rally two years ago when he was the first Rookie Rider in the Rally du Maroc in 2023 and the prize was an entry into the Dakar.
Although the free entry helped, that was only a portion of the cost of being a part of the toughest Rally in the World. In this podcast, Toby talks about the preparation required to enter Dakar, the challenges of getting there and competing, the excitement of finishing and much more.
I hope you enjoy this 2025 Dakar rally Rookie rider, Toby Hederics
