This year’s Bathurst 12 Hour will have a small piece of Famous Insurance involved with close friend of the team Glen Wood to drive the GWR prepared Vantage Racing KTM X-Bow GT2.
Glen is fresh off a campaign in the Dubai 24 Hour’s on board a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo which despite a couple of mechanical issues along the journey they still finished in the top 30. “It was an awesome experience, I can’t explain how tough it is when it is 2am and you get woken up and told to get in the car, but what an experience can’t thank the team enough”. Flying back to Australia Wood got straight into a test day at Sydney Motorsport Park in the KTM ahead of the international enduro at Bathurst where the car runs in the invited class. “The last few years we have run in the overall GT3 class, this year is a bit different because we don’t really know how we will go. The car is a GT2 car which basically means it has less aerodynamics, but is slipperier in a straight line, so in theory up and down the hill it will go alright but we aren’t allowed to win so need to keep our results in check”.
The KTM is a unique car, the only one of it’s kind in Australia it is built by famed Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM in conjunction with Reiter Engineering in Germany.
“The car weighs just over 1100kg or so and before balance of performance makes 600 horsepower from the Audi sourced 2.5 litre 5 cylinder turbocharged engine and has an Australian made Holinger 6 speed paddle shift gearbox”
Wood will share the driving with the owner David Crampton and Crampton’s regular co-driver Trent Harrison before Wood turns his attention to the 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship onboard the #911 Porsche GT3.
