Mumbai, the honking capital of the world

If you have had the pleasure … no, make that mental duress … or maybe fear would be better, of driving in India, I’m sure you’ll understand why Mumbai authorities are trying to tackle noise pollution in their city.

Just as a preface, and from experience, I can say that watching traffic flow in India with the enormous number of cars and motorbikes all going wherever they want is actually scarier than being in amongst it. They generally use their horns to alert other drivers that they are where they are, but not in an angry, road rage way like over here, or simply to try to keep the traffic moving as quickly as possible.

Consequently, to minimize the noise pollution caused by the constant honking of horns, the Mumbai authorities have trialed a unique initiative.
