Lap of Legends – Lewis Hamilton and Sir Frank Williams

For all of F1’s hype and bravado, every now and then there is a situation that makes for a very special moment. One of those moments occurred in July of this year at the Silverstone race track when two legends of Formula One became ‘hooligans’.

Five-time Drivers World Champion, Lewis Hamilton took nine-time Constructors World Champion and Williams F1 team principal, Sir Frank Williams for a quick hot lap …. or two and the following video that captured the moment, is just fantastic.

I reckon even if you’re not a Lewis Hamilton fan, you may very nearly be within the next four minutes.

Sir Frank and Lewis hoon around Silverstone

How good is the reaction from Sir Frank Williams, who’s been in a wheelchair since March 1986, when a car accident in France rendered him a paraplegic. Also in the car at the time of the accident was the team Sponsorship Manager and now renowned F1 commentator Peter Windsor, who was featured in last month’s Famous Last Words.

Apart from the obvious affection and respect Lewis and Sir Frank have for each other, what I really loved in the video is their indignation to the one lap command, and the sight of the lady waving her arms at the end of the second lap signaling them into the garage …. Priceless.
