Alex Peroni and his Formula 1 dream

At the start of this year I had the pleasure of meeting a young Hobart man named Alex Peroni, whose goal in life is to race in Formula 1. “Not alone there”, you may rightly say. However having spent time with both Alex and his family, I along with many others in the motor racing fraternity believe he may very well succeed.

Consequently I was shocked when I saw this vision from the recent F1 Italian Grand Prix coverage at Monza, where Alex was racing in his 13 th FIA Formula 3 Championship race.

Thankfully, 19-year-old Alex is back in Hobart and on the road to recovery after suffering a broken vertebra, and in this week’s Famous Podcast I talk to him about the accident and his career so far.

Alex was 7 years old when he first raced go karts competitively in Australia and then went on to compete in Europe. At age 15 he stepped up to race open-wheelers in the Italian Formula 4 Championship, before progressing to Formula Renault and Formula Renault EuroCup. At the start of this year Alex took a major step toward his F1 dream by competing in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, which saw him race alongside some of the world’s most talented young drivers.
